Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
To feel life escape the space between your arms and heart;
departing to where I don’t know.
Just that it is so
so high above.
There will be few miseries that challenge
this affair of anguish set to the tune
of ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,’
it seems too tailored for a journey cross town,
one soul down.
It’s 4AM in early spring.
The windows open,
my fingers trace wind,
and I’ve never felt so empty,
nor betrayed by time.
Never do you invite these reckonings,
yet seconds continue their parting
through my every attempt at ceasing all moments
a day beyond your existence.
I listen to each pearl of water hit tile till I dry.
Count the petals of my neighbour’s magnolia.
Trace every alley of the area in tears of salt.
How could all be there,
blooming and moving,
when you’re not.
And I’ll never forgive,
for my little loon
that was taken;
it’ll always be too soon.
I think you left us stranded,
gasping in raucous change.
I think it aches still,
that it was a decision made.
I think I’ll never not see your imprint
in white patio sunlight.
In arms, in cloth, in heart,
I promise,
always, I will have you.
Hold you to the city light ballads.
Hold you in the grey of raining last days.
Hold you forever in the hollow of my left.
